Health Anxiety Disorder

Structured, evidence-based support to separate health worry from medical evidence — delivered by a BABCP accredited therapist and NMC registered mental health nurse, at a pace that respects where you are.

Understanding Health Anxiety

Every sensation can feel like a warning sign. Support that helps you trust your body again.

Health Anxiety Disorder is a persistent worry about having, or developing, a serious illness — often despite medical reassurance. It can turn ordinary bodily sensations into sources of fear, and reassurance into something that only helps for a moment.

Treatment is led personally by Arlene Alexander-Price — an NMC registered mental health nurse since 2004 and a BABCP accredited therapist of close to two decades' standing — most often through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, helping separate worry from evidence.

Signs & Symptoms

Signs You May Recognise

Health anxiety can feel like the opposite of hypochondria as a punchline — it's a real and exhausting cycle of noticing a sensation, worrying about it, seeking reassurance, and briefly feeling better before the cycle starts again.

It's not about being dramatic. The fear is genuine, even when medical tests come back clear — which is exactly why it's difficult to simply reason your way out of it.

Select each one to read more — recognising the pattern is often the first step toward doing something about it.

A recurring conviction that ordinary sensations mean something is seriously wrong, even after medical reassurance.

Regularly checking your pulse, skin, lumps or other sensations, looking for signs that something has changed.

Booking frequent GP appointments, researching symptoms online, or asking loved ones to confirm you're not unwell.

Avoiding hospitals, health articles, or conversations about illness because they set off a spiral of worry.

Feeling briefly relieved after a doctor's reassurance, only for the worry to return within hours or days.

Real physical sensations — a racing heart, tension, nausea — that are themselves caused by the anxiety, reinforcing the worry.
